About the IFSC

The IFSC was created on January 27th 2007 and is a continuation of the International Council for Competition Climbing which was created in 1997. It is an Olympic Sport Federation.


The IFSC is an Olympic International Federation and recognised by IPC, is member of ARISF, GAISF, IWGA and ASOIF.

The IFSC is a non-governmental international association with a non-profit-making purpose of international interest. 

The principal purposes of the IFSC are the direction, regulation, promotion, development and furtherance of climbing competitions on a worldwide basis.

Sport Climbing was officially confirmed as an additional sport for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by the IOC Session in Rio de Janeiro in August 2016 and it has been included as a medal sport in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
